Concerts & Musical Productions

Our Worship Center's high ceilings and numerous windows create an airy, spacious atmosphere for concerts and musical productions. Soaring windows overlooking picturesque Lake Merritt are situated on the west side of the center. A glass mosaic triptych, designed and rendered in the early 1920's under the direct supervision of Louis C. Tiffany, is displayed on the north wall. An outstanding Yamaha grand piano is available for your use. Our three manual and pedal pipe organ was originally built in the 1920's by the Pilcher Company of Louisville, Kentucky. It is fully enclosed within three expression chambers and contains 25 stops, 31 ranks, and 1,962 pipes. Additionally, the moveable drawknob console boasts a Solid State Logic multiple level capture system. The room is acoustically alive, and is a favorite performance venue for a variety of choruses. Productions requiring only basic amplification will find our sound system adequate; while others need to bring in their own elaborate sound system. Some of musical groups that perform here include: Kitka Women's Vocal Ensemble, Voci Women's Vocal Ensemble, World Harmony Chorus, Women's Antique Vocal Ensemble, Harmony Bay Chorus, and the Festival Chorus of the East Bay. Past performers include: The Oakland/East Bay Gay Men's Chorus, Voices Lesbian Choral Ensemble, Transcendence Gospel Choir and Lisa Rafel & Friends. The contemporary design of this room features comfortable chairs and a moveable platform, allowing for various seating configurations accommodating up to 250 people in upholstered chairs. Normally there are approximately 165 chairs set up. We can also take down chairs to suit a smaller group. We often change the room arrangement during the year to meet the needs of our worship services, so the layout of chairs and the platform may or may not meet the needs of your event. An additional fee can be paid to have the room arranged to your preference. The church has a small parking lot at the First Avenue entrance, holding approximately 18 cars. Our experience is that plenty of street parking is available for your guests. Making Your Reservation: A refundable security deposit of $250 plus 50% of the rental fees is required in order to reserve the date and time on the calendar.
