Who are We
In response to the nationally recognized assaults on black and brown people, this video was posted by Bishop Carcaño of the United Methodist Church. It calls out our historic cruelty, particularly toward African American men and boys, from historic legal slavery to modern day slavery, encompassing unjust policing practices, modern day lynching and economic injustice that traps people of color in poverty.
In support of community efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19, Worship services are being held by live-stream only until further notice. Please consider volunteering in our community food programs. These essential services are exempt from the current Shelter-in-Place Order.
Lake Merritt United Methodist Church is an open and welcoming Christian congregation serving God in downtown Oakland. We seek to build a multi-racial, multi-ethnic and multi-cultural community. We welcome and affirm full participation of the LGBTQIA community in the life of the congregation. We work to promote inclusiveness of all people in the United Methodist Church as a whole. All are welcome!
View our congregational art exhibit, What Matters is a New Creation, in the Edwards Room art gallery across from the sanctuary or view a video of the exhibit here. A description of the pieces is here.
