Welcome to Pride Sunday worship at Lake Merritt and Lake Park UMC. We have a guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Israel (Izzy) Alvaran from the Reconciling Ministry Networks and his short bio is described below. As a reconciling congregation, we follow Jesus Christ by loving and accepting: all ages, all races, all abilities, all culture, all ethnicities, all national origins, all education levels, all gender identities, all sexual orientations, all socioeconomic statues, all family and marital statuses. Come celebrate Pride Sunday with us this Sunday.
Rev. Dr. Israel (Izzy) Alvaran
Pronouns: he/him
Izzy is a self-avowed gay United Methodist elder from the Philippines appointed as RMN’s Organizer in the Western and North Central jurisdictions.
He has also served as pastor, conference youth director, faculty in United Methodist educational institutions, labor union organizer, and economic justice organizer with the General Board of Church and Society. He earned his Master of Divinity and Master of Theology degrees in the Philippines and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA. A former political refugee, he is passionate about human rights and believes that queer justice is inherently intersectional.
