Compassion and Justice
Today we gather around the powerful words of Jesus in Matthew 25, where the call is clear: to love God by loving the “least of these.” As followers of Christ, we are invited not only to acts of mercy and compassion—feeding, clothing, visiting, welcoming—but also to the deeper work of justice that changes lives and transforms systems. Worship draws us back to God’s heart, reminding us that compassion and justice belong together.

Alameda County is inviting our church to the Grand Opening Celebration of Wonderland Kids Fest—a fun, family-friendly festival happening Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 10 AM to 7 PM at the Laney College Parking Lot (510 Fallon St., Oakland).
Enjoy a day filled with rides, games, storytelling, karaoke, water slides, food, and more—all completely FREE for you, your family, and friends. Let’s celebrate a day of joy, learning, and community fun!

In Luke 14, Jesus paints a vision of God’s radical hospitality—a banquet where the least expected are given places of honor, and the invitation extends far beyond the usual guest list. As Pentecost people, we are called not only to receive this invitation but to embody it—to extend God’s welcome beyond barriers of class, race, ability, or belonging. At God’s table, all are equal, all are honored, all are beloved.

Pastor Sunae’s Silent Retreat & Vacation
July 21st – July 25th Silent Retreat, July 27th – August 3rd Vacation
Pastor Sunae will be spending a week at San Damiano Retreat center for Silent Retreat. Then she and Mike will be on vacation the following week. For any care and support needs during her absence, please reach out to Sue Dickey, our Congregational Nurturing Chair. In case of an emergency requiring pastoral care, Rev. Our food ministry program needs more help from the congregation. Please review and complete this survey (
here) which includes a list of all the ways you can volunteer. There are many options and some can be done from home. You don’t need to make a long term commitment, just check out the experience and decide from there if and how you want to help. Contact Rose Lynn Abesamis-Bell or Tom Huetteman if you have questions
Church Administrator Out of the Office
Horacio Cervantez will be out of the office from August 1st through August 15th. The office hours will remain the same, 10 am to 2 pm, and will be staffed by our reception volunteers. If you require assistance, you may reach out to any of the Trustees or Pastor Sunae.
Food 4 Thought Extends Summer Break
The Foof 4 Thought small group will be taking one more month of summer break and will gather again the first day Sunday of September.

Called to Bear Witness – Hope
In Matthew 28 and Acts 1, the risen Christ commissions his followers: “Go and make disciples of all nations” and “You will be my witnesses… to the ends of the earth.” These aren’t just words for the first disciples — they are a living call for us today.
To be Pentecost people is to be a community formed and empowered by the Holy Spirit, sent into the world to bear witness to God’s love. It means living with courage, compassion, and purpose — making Christ’s love visible through both word and action.
We are called not to retreat from the world’s complexity, but to enter into it with the fire of heavenly love — proclaiming good news, healing the broken, and working for justice. This is the witness we offer. This is the love we embody.
