“Expand the Dream”

The last four Sundays, we’ve been reflecting on God’s dream as we pray, “Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”  (Matthew 6:9)

Rebekah Simon Peter challenged us to D.A.R.E. – Dream like Jesus, Align ourselves to fulfil Jesus’ Dream, Realize the Dream, and today, Expand God’s dream.  Another words, “Dream on”.

Dream On! God intends for us to move forward and to expand on our dreams that emanate from Him. Fulfilling God’s dream on earth, the kingdom of God, is like planting a tiny seed and it growing to give rest and life.  What is God’s dream for us at Lake Merritt United Methodist Church?  Come friends!  As your pastor, I would like to share God’s vision and his dream for our church.  Amen.

“Realize the Dream”

We continue our worship series inspired by Rebekah Simon-Peter’s book, “Dream Like Jesus”.

God gives us dreams that are bigger than what we can do on our own, and yet with God’s power those dreams can be fulfilled. Dreams can come true in the dreams God gives and through the means God’s grace. And God grants us the ability to make dreams come true.

Jesus sent off his twelve closest followers to fulfil God’s vision. Then, he appointed seventy-two others and sent them off by two by two to every town and place.  He strategized and empowered and fully equipped his people to act and live in God’s dream.  Siblings, how do you realize God’s dream? What is your strategy to fulfil God’s dream?  Come! Join us and let us continue to dream God’s dream and live in Jesus’ name.   Amen.

Dream Like Jesus

We begin a new worship series inspired by Rebekah Simon-Peter’s book, “Dream Like Jesus”.   She offers insight borne from her own journey as she invites readers to reflect on the forgotten dream Jesus calls us to remember.  Her book titles, “Dream Like Jesus!” 

God is already at work in the world and we are called to dare to bring forth the dreams of Jesus.  Have you wondered, “What is God’s dream for me?  What is God’s dream for our church?”

We are invited to spend some time in prayer and meditation exploring the dreams God may be bringing to your awareness today.  Frederick Beuchner said, “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”  Siblings, what brings you deep gladness? How about our church?  What are some of the world’s deep hungers?  Finally, what resources does our church already sharing?  What other resources could our church share more? 

Let’s look at the intersections of these things.  It may point to a vision.  May we dare to bring forth God’s dream here and now. Amen.

Do you live like Jesus?  What comes to your mind when you think about dreaming and living like Jesus today?  We will spend the next five Sundays reflecting on Jesus’ dream and following his dream. 

This Sunday, we will begin to dream like Jesus!  It will be an exciting ride!  Are you ready?  Join us.

Celebration of Leadership and Committee Work

Reading the Lasting Impact book with a small group during the last Lenten season, a few asked, “I am not so clear on our church’s leadership structure!  What?  We had that committee?”  We laughed and agreed that one day we must share and celebrate our leadership and our committee work.  

Friends, eight leadership teams of Lake Merritt UMC and one board model leadership team of Lake Park UMC are looking forward to sharing the wonderful work we are doing to co-create God’s beloved community here in Oakland.  Pastor Dale will be sharing new hopes that are rising at Lake Park UMC. 

During the fellowship hour, the eight committees of LMUMC and a church council of LPUMC will be ready to answer any questions about their wonderful and life-changing ministries at their designated tables.  Come and visit them!
