Join the Young Musicians Choral Orchestra on June 14th for a free concert titled “On the Wings of Song”. The concert will be held at Littlefield Concert Hall on the Mills College/Northeastern University campus at 5000 MacArthur Blvd. in Oakland.  The concert is free, but please reserve your seat by contacting YMCO at 510-845-1403 or online at www.youngmusiciansco.org

Pastor Sunae on Vacation 

June 16 – June 22

Mike and Pastor Sunae will be on vacation next week. For any care and support needs during Pastor Sunae’s absence, please reach out to Sue Dickey, our Congregational Nurturing Chair. In case of an emergency requiring pastoral care, Rev. Myrna Bernadel-Huey is available. To connect with Rev. Myrna, please contact Sue Dickey or our Church Administrator during office hours. Rev. Dr. Richard Stinson will be preaching on June 22, 2025.

177th Session of the California-Nevada Annual Conference

June 27 – June 30

The 177th Session of the California-Nevada Annual Conference will take place from June 27-30, 2025 at the SAFE Credit Union Convention in Sacramento, with the theme “Thriving in Community.”  Pastor Sunae, our lay delegate, Tom Huetteman and Laurel Williams, Rev. Ken Schoon, and Rev. Stephanie Gamero will be attending.

 Would you like to take part in our Sunday Worship services? There are openings for Worship Leaders this summer to lead the opening and closing prayers and read the scriptures.

Summer Volunteering

With summer approaching, we look forward to beautiful walks around the lake greeting our neighbors with food and a smile, not to mention prepping lunches with a jolly team and sunbeams coming through the expansive Stark Room windows. Did we say how blessed we feel after our monthly Saturday food giveaway knowing that even that brief bit of time and effort means free food is made accessible to our community?  We are meeting a new people each month. Get out your calendars and pick some dates to come out to be blessing and even more so to be blessed!

Coming Alive

This Sunday, join us as we celebrate the power and presence of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost! Rev. Mary Elyn Bahlert will bring a message titled “Coming Alive,” inspired by Acts 2:1–21, reminding us of the Spirit’s call to renewal, inclusion, and hope. Together, we’ll reflect on how God’s Spirit breathes new life into our world and invites us into a community of radical love and justice. All are welcome!

Right of Return Pilgrimage

Sunday, June 8, 7am – 7pm

Join the PIP-FOWF small group in participating in the second interfaith pilgrimage in conjunction with the global movement of ceasefire pilgrimages. Organized by Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity and partners, this 22 mile journey – from Alameda to Berkeley – the reverse of last year’s pilgrimage route, will be held in prayer and solidarity symbolizing the distance from Rafah to Gaza City.  Please contact Elliot Bernadel-Huey (elliotghbh@gmail.com) or Rose Lynn Abesamis-Bell (roselynn20@gmail.com) for more information and register here.

All-Church Conference 

Wednesday, June 11, 5:30 pm

A Special Charge Conference will be held on June 11, 2025 at 5:30 PM for approval of the Affordable Housing Development Project at Lake Park Church Campus of Lake Merritt UMC and approval of hiring the Owner’s Representative. All church members are invited to attend in person. Bay District Superintendent Rev. Sun Hee Kim will preside over the conference.

Easter Vision: A New Beginning

Christ is Risen! He is risen, indeed! Come celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ this Easter Sunday as we gather for a powerful time of worship, reflection, and joy.

This Easter will be especially meaningful as your lay leader, Tom Huetteman, and Pastor Sunae unveil our church’s refreshed vision and branding of Lake Merritt United Methodist Church, inspired by the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:13-16:

“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world… Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Come hear the heart behind the changes and explore how we’re growing into the future while honoring our rich legacy. All are welcome. Come as you are. Bring your family and friends! Let’s step into this new chapter together this Easter!

Tenebrae and Taizé Service

Good Friday, April 18th, 7 pm

Through the reading of scripture and the successive extinguishing of light in the Sanctuary, you are invited to enter into the dramatic narrative of Jesus’ betrayal, arrest, and crucifixion. Join us for a service of music, scriptures, shadows, darkness, and silence, reflecting the solemn mood of this day. The Zoom link can be found here.

Easter Celebration

Sunday, April 20th, 10:15 am

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Join us for an Easter service filled with guest musicians, choir voices, sharing of our refreshed vision, songs, baptism, receiving of new members and prayers. Our Easter offerings will help support our siblings in Wadi Foquin and at the Safie Koroma Preparatory School in Sierra Leone. Please bring fresh-cut flowers for the children to decorate the Easter Cross. During worship, we will have an Easter egg hunt and activities for the children.Join us for a time of fellowship following the service. Light refreshments will be served, and all are warmly welcome.

?4/27 – Youth Sunday School: We’ll continue our Bible & Boba series! Parents, please send your youth’s boba order to Lulu.

? 5/4 – Children’s Choir: The Children’s Choir will perform during the Children’s Moment. The 20-minute choir class will follow the Children’s Moment in worship, just before Godly Play/childcare.

? 5/4 – Youth Group: Join us at LMUMC from 12 PM – 2 PM for faith, food, and fellowship! RSVP to Lulu at office@lakemerritumc.org.
