Compassion
On this second Sunday in our series “Do Unto Others,” our theme is compassion, which comes from a Latin root meaning “to suffer with.” That is to say, we exercise compassion when we allow ourselves to share in another’s story of pain, suffering, or struggle. As a spiritual practice, compassion has the potential to transform how we live with others. It grounds our relationships in mutual care and concern, not indifference or domination. Feeling compassion is part of our human nature, so why is it so hard to practice? What can we do to reclaim it? That is what we will explore. –Deacon Ken Schoon

Food Recovery Support
Many people ask where the food and supplies come from used in Lake Lunches and the Food Pantry. Generous donations, food made available through the Alameda County Community Food Bank, and a growing amount comes to us through Food Recovery. Through ACCFB’s Food Recovery Program and the Food Recovery Network, we source donated food from local groceries and food vendors such as Lucky Supermarket and Piedmont Grocery nearby. Some of you have helped us with big hauls of Honeybaked Ham! Special thanks to Pastor Sunae and Micheal for consistently providing support in picking up food from Lucky this past year and more.
Are you curious or passionate about this effort? There are many ways to plug in to this effort from organizing, picking up food, weighing and sorting, joining network meetings to learn more food recovery laws and support. Your help is needed! Help UMCOR Bring Relief After Hurricanes Helene & Milton
We pray for all who have been impacted by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton in the Southeastern United States. One of the best ways to help those impacted by the storm is to donate to UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief. By giving to UMCOR (donate here), 100 percent of your donation will go directly to assist families impacted by Hurricane Helene.
UMCOR Early Response Teams are already coordinating effort to support the removal of debris, tarping of roofs and cleaning out of homes in hard-hit areas. If you are interested in being trained to serve on an Early Response Team, please contact the California-Nevada Disaster Response Ministry.

Each order includes #4 individual rapid antigen COVID-19 tests including extended shelf life and updated expiration dates). Orders will ship free, starting September 30, 2024. Election season is upon us. It seems that division and polarization are common headlines and are often typified in the colors red and blue. In a time filled with negativity, we have a choice to make. Let’s choose kindness. Kindness strengthens relationships, neighborhoods, and communities. It helps us find common ground, instead of taking sides. It allows us to disagree and remain friends. It builds bridges, instead of walls. Let’s vote for Kindness, one small act at a time. –Pastor Sunae

Sound Bath

Sound Bath returns this Friday, October 11th with Madhu Anziani. What better way to end your week than by slowing down and relaxing, surrounded by meditative vibrations and melodies? Be immersed in flowing sounds as you sit in a chair or lie on the floor with your own mat, blanket, and/or pillow.

Friends, what came alive in your life as we have been putting the 12 Step Spirituality into practice the last 11 weeks? This is spiritual awakening. The Twelfth Step says, “Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others and to practice these principles in all our affairs.” The Twelfth Step says, Pass it on.
Jesus says in Mark 5:19, “Go home to your friends, and tell them how much the Lord has done for you.” There is a great joy in sharing our spiritual awakening story. Let us pass it on! Amen. –Pastor Sunae
