Sierra Leone School Project Jollof Rice Dinner

The Koroma family and friends at Lake Merritt UMC invite you to come and enjoy typical Sierra Leonean cuisine and support fundraising efforts for the Sierra Leone School Project.
Only about half of the population of Sierra Leone (in Africa) can read and write. The vision of the Sierra Leone School Project is to start a primary school in the town of Lungi in Northwest Sierra Leone to help address the low illiteracy in the country. Funds raised will go towards paying teachers, buying school materials, building additional classrooms, and providing other necessary support for the school.

Food Recovery Support
Many people ask where the food and supplies come from used in Lake Lunches and the Food Pantry. Generous donations, food made available through the Alameda County Community Food Bank, and a growing amount comes to us through Food Recovery. Through ACCFB’s Food Recovery Program and the Food Recovery Network, we source donated food from local groceries and food vendors such as Lucky Supermarket and Piedmont Grocery nearby. Some of you have helped us with big hauls of Honeybaked Ham! Special thanks to Pastor Sunae and Micheal for consistently providing support in picking up food from Lucky this past year and more.
Are you curious or passionate about this effort? There are many ways to plug in to this effort from organizing, picking up food, weighing and sorting, joining network meetings to learn more food recovery laws and support. Your help is needed! Help UMCOR Bring Healing and Hope After Hurricane Helene
We pray for all who have been impacted by Hurricane Helene and its aftermath in the Southeastern United States. One of the best ways to help those impacted by the storm is to donate to UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief. By giving to UMCOR (donate here), 100 percent of your donation will go directly to assist families impacted by Hurricane Helene.
UMCOR Early Response Teams are already coordinating effort to support the removal of debris, tarping of roofs and cleaning out of homes in hard-hit areas. If you are interested in being trained to serve on an Early Response Team, please contact the California-Nevada Disaster Response Ministry.
Prayers for World Communion Sunday
On this World Communion Sunday, you are invited to visit the World Peace prayer station near the red peace light in the sanctuary to lift up regions of our world experiencing violence and conflict and to pray for peace. There will be small cards on the table for you to note the name/place you are lifting up in prayer and reflect on what it means as people of faith to be peacemakers across our world.

Future concerts this season will be on Nov 23, Mar 29, and Jun 14, with tickets going on sale on the website about a month beforehand.
Taylor Memorial UMC Gospel Breakfast

Taylor Memorial UMC is celebrating its 103rd Anniversary in October. As part of that celebration, we are invited to join their Gospel Breakfast on Saturday, October 19 from 9-11am. An Alternative Mind
Step 11 of the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous takes us deeper into our spirituality as participants are encouraged to connect with a higher power. For many people of faith, their higher power is God. For others, their higher power is a higher purpose, a source of strength, or another power greater than themselves.
The encounter with God / a power greater than ourselves does not leave us the same, it changes us! Join us this Sunday as the Rev. Jeff Kunkel shares the penultimate message in our sermon series on the 12 steps.

Sunday Morning Building Access
In an effort to enhance the safety of our Church community, beginning this Sunday, September 29th, access to our Church building will be curtailed. The Lakeshore doors will be unlocked at about 9:30 a.m. and will be locked after Worship ends. The parking lot doors will also be opened at about 9:30, but they will be closed when Worship begins at about 10:15. If you arrive when the Parking lot doors are closed, please use your assigned lock code to enter. Guests will be directed via a sign to go to the Lakeshore side of the building to enter. Please contact our Church Administrator if you need a lock code.
“Where Olive Trees Weep” Screening
12:30pm Sunday, Sept 29
Please join LMUMC’s Peace in Palestine – Friends of Wadi Foquin small group for a film screening and Q&A in our sanctuary on Sunday, September 29. We will gather around 12:15 at the end fellowship hour, which will feature Palestinian food, and begin the film screening by 12:30.
Where Olive Trees Weep is a new documentary that chronicles life in the West Bank under Israeli occupation and paints a vivid picture of what life is like for our siblings living there. We have also invited Rev. Emily Lin from Friends of Wadi Foquin to give updates on the current situation in the village of Wadi Foquin and how we can help.

Sunday Morning Building Access
