Locked Up in Our Own Devices
This summer, we begin our new worship series which will focus on finding freedom through 12-Step Spirituality from Alcoholics Anonymous. The New Testament calls it salvation (Sozo), healing, wellness, and wholeness, and the 12-Step program calls it recovery.
Franciscan Father and theologian Richard Rohr writes in his book, Breathing Under Water: Spirituality and the Twelve Steps, “We are all addicts. Human beings are addictive by nature. Addiction is a modern name and honest description for what the biblical tradition called ‘sin,’ and medieval Christians called ‘attachments.’ Substance addictions like alcohol and drugs are merely the most visible form of addiction, but actually we are all addicts…” (p. 22).
Through the story of the Prodigal Son, Jesus tells this story for a much more startling point. He was redefining what it means to be lost. Listening to the two brothers’ story in the Prodigal Son, and also the father’s story, we see that we can be lost, and we can also be found. The only requirement for being found or receiving the forgiveness, healing, and life-giving grace of God is to know that we need it.

Sound Bath
6:45pm Friday, July 12th
Our Sound Bath returns this Friday, July 12th with special guest musician and sound healer Madhu Anziani. After a spinal cord injury that left him quadriplegic, Madhu used sound and energy healing to achieve a full recovery. He now offers the deeply healing modalities of music, vibration, divination, hypnotherapy and ceremony to communities around the world. Bring your favorite yoga mat, blanket, and pillow and take a deeply meditative sonic journey. Admittance for the church community is donation-based; $20 is suggested via cash, check, or Venmo. Western Jurisdictional Conference begins
The 2024 Western Jurisdictional Conference will be held on July 10-13, 2024, in Spokane, Washington. The theme is “Love Without Limits.” The conference will begin with missional engagement opportunities on Wednesday, July 10, at 9 a.m. PT. Opening worship, an episcopal address, and the first plenary session will follow at 1 p.m. The conference will conclude on Saturday afternoon (July 13) with a closing service at 1 p.m. If an episcopal election is necessary, this will be a Service of Consecration.
As we gather, we will have traveled from the eastern edge of Colorado, the islands of Hawaii, Guam, and Saipan in the west, from Alaska in the north, from Arizona in the south, and all places in between to reach this lovely region. We gather to live out and model our Western Jurisdiction vision: A home for all God’s people, gathered around a table of reconciliation and transformation: the Western Jurisdiction of The United Methodist Church is multicultural and inclusive, engaged in the life of its communities, with confident, effective lay and clergy leadership who, in diverse ministry settings, form disciples who live out the Good News of Jesus as global citizens.
We gather to consider what values we share as a jurisdiction, celebrate retirements, possibly elect new bishops to serve in our jurisdiction, and consider legislation that moves us toward living into our values and vision. Happy Farewells
This Sunday will be my last Sunday as Associate Pastor at LMUMC. It has been a joy and a privilege to serve this past year with Pastor Sunae and all of the fine leaders of this great church. But I will still be around, which will be clarified for all in worship. My sermon will be “Happy Farewells”, based on Philippians 4:4-9.
I have been reminded that for the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, happiness is the final end or goal that encompasses the totality of one’s life. It is not something that can be gained or lost in a few hours, like pleasurable sensations. It is more like the ultimate value of your life as lived up to this moment, measuring how well you have lived up to your full potential as a human being. By that standard, I am a very happy man. The Apostle Paul wrote, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!”

Pastoral and Staff Vacation Schedule
Pastor Sunae will be on vacation for the next two weeks from 6/17-6/29. Please call Pastor Dale for any pastoral care during this time. Our Church Administrator, Deacon Ken, will be on vacation from June 24-30th and will respond to reservation requests and e-blast submissions when he returns to the office July 1st. The church office will be closed on July 4th for the national holiday.
No Yoga 7/4
There will be no Yoga class on Thursday, July 4th. Class will resume at noon on Thursday, July 11th.

- Your event must take place within one month of being published.
- Please provide a headline/title that includes the dates of your event.
- Have a fully prepared description of your event. Generally, administrative staff will not be available to edit your content.
- Please be succinct; try to keep your description to no more than four sentences, providing key facts.
- If you require a longer background, please provide a PDF (so that it may be linked on the events page) in addition to your headline and brief description.

Can We Dream?
Our worship this Sunday will be inspired by the cosmic vision in Isaiah 65:17-25, which will form the basis for my message, “Can We Dream?” The Good News for us today, as in ages past, is that we are not abandoned: a loving God calls us forward. Let’s reflect together about courage and delight in life, rooted in love. The choir will sing the inspired song, “A Canticle of Peace”. –Pastor Dale
