This Week’s Sermon Leader
Welcome to Pride Sunday worship at Lake Merritt and Lake Park UMC. We have a guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Israel (Izzy) Alvaran from the Reconciling Ministry Networks and his short bio is described below. As a reconciling congregation, we follow Jesus Christ by loving and accepting: all ages, all races, all abilities, all culture, all ethnicities, all national origins, all education levels, all gender identities, all sexual orientations, all socioeconomic statues, all family and marital statuses. Come celebrate Pride Sunday with us this Sunday.
Rev. Dr. Israel (Izzy) Alvaran
Pronouns: he/him
Izzy is a self-avowed gay United Methodist elder from the Philippines appointed as RMN’s Organizer in the Western and North Central jurisdictions.
He has also served as pastor, conference youth director, faculty in United Methodist educational institutions, labor union organizer, and economic justice organizer with the General Board of Church and Society. He earned his Master of Divinity and Master of Theology degrees in the Philippines and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA. A former political refugee, he is passionate about human rights and believes that queer justice is inherently intersectional.

Grant Tompkins, the father of Dorothea, Vera, and Johnie, volunteered to teach our children this Sunday.

“We Could All Use A Little Kindness”
We invite you to join us this Sunday as we listen to Audrey Huetteman’s story of founding a nonprofit in Morocco called “Amalna Marco”.
Almana means “our hope” and she will be sharing her own journey to the road less traveled and the treasures, the people, the humanity,
and kindness that is found along the way.
We begin our Mr. Roger’s Worship Series,
“It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” this Sunday.
Children’s Moment is back during our Mr. Roger’s worship series
and our excellent teacher is Margaret LeWright.
As our children begin a new school year, we would like to pray for our children
and their backpacks. If your children are vaccinated and feel safe to bring them to church in person this Sunday, we would love to see and bless them.
Bring their backpack or any object it represents their new school year.
Children will join our main worship, then have a short Children’s moment and Prayer of Blessings, then they will be gathering in the Sunday school room safely with the Godly Play Sunday school teacher.
